『Owl In A Cage』ROTTMNT Storyboard Frames

I've made some animatics and storyboards before, but I never took them (or myself) seriously. I wanted to push some limits, test the water, and take myself super cereal-- I mean seriously. This is my serious face.

When thinking of what to do for most of the storyboard, I was not at all planning to have so many Casey + Leo scenes. But as I listened to the song and drew out each frame, It's clear that there's not enough of Casey and Leo. They're obviously close. Let's make them close. What better to bring family together than with the loss of family? I wanted to really hone in on Leo's final moments with his last surviving family. I also made him bleed out for cinematic purposes. Getting one shot by a giant AoE laser and not even having a second to realize is...... too easy. No final words. No final thoughts. No pain, probably. Eviscerated. (Don't tell Riot Games, I prefer to have counter-play).

Make sure to tell your friends and family how much you love them. Anything could happen at any time. Not saying you could get instantly vaporized by a giant alien mega death ray.... but it could happen. Also, if you haven't already, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an excellent movie and TV series you should watch. I highly recommend.

ROTTMNT Not owned by me, same for their characters.
Character designs do not belong to me, I referenced many different fan artworks from different futuristic / alternate universes. All specific design choices go to their respective creators.
I don't own the song either, that belongs to Vivziepop and their Helluva Boss series.

The thumbnail and title sequence. I like to think that aside from foreshadowing the ending, perhaps the Krang were just always there. Waiting for the right moment of vulnerability.

I wanted to get a closeup viewing of Leo's eye behind the mask, where the light dims as he slips into thought.

The start of the Hamato Family (Referencing an image we already knew).

As time goes on, so do the Hamato. At least they still have Casey Jr.

The look of a man who has not yet learned how to be responsible for others.

I really enjoyed trying to make a spotlight on these two. It shows that they are better together, especially when including the theme behind colors in the animatic.

Ohh, this was so interesting. I really wanted this big, big, BIG perspective, where the Krang finds these sickeningly cute father-son duo. And the massive red floodlight. I love it.

I had so many ideas for Mikey. I wanted him to be a distraction to the Krang, a savior to Leo, a Hero to Casey. But Mikey was always pointing, in every iteration, lol.

For some reason, drawing closeups of these two felt really natural and authentic. They're so close, and I really wanted it to show. I hope the animatic conveys it well.

Even though Casey is an adult, he's still close as ever to Leo. Now he's taking care of his broken old man.

You know, I didn't realize until drawing this frame that Leo and Mikey are Atlas and P-Body. Leo has blue portals, Mikey has orange portals... They're portal bros. Buh-buh-bye, Casey Jones!

Although a sad ending, I felt a crucial one. Everything is in full color. Leo has always had his family, it was just smaller. They're happy and move on, just like the rest. Then he closes his eyes, and he's free.
